Talkin Faith with Catholic Sis Episode 13: With Guest Arleen Spenceley

Fiat Ministry Network

June 21, 2015

First Segment: Intro Special Guest Arleen Spenceley:

We are so blessed to have you on the network tonight – thank you!
I’ve been following you for quite a while now, but for those of us who haven’t, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and make us feel like we’re old friends:
Your platform and ministry is promoting chastity as a lifestyle if I’m correct? https://arleenspenceley.com/about/
What inspired you to be so passionate about this topic?
There’s a lot of mystery and embarrassing discomfort surrounding this topic; can you sort of dispel some myths for us and tell us what chastity really means? Is chastity the same as abstinence?
Do you think that what the world, and more especially the media, presents as chastity and sexuality directly contrasts what we should be doing or believing as Catholics? How can we combat that?
So you wrote this fantastic book, “Chastity is For Lovers.” Is there a story behind it? Tell us about the title and why you chose it. https://arleenspenceley.com/my-book/
Transition: I think everyone should have a copy of your book, especially teenagers, so when we come back from this short commercial break, we’ll tell you why. Also youth, stay tuned for some words of wisdom from Arleen just for you!

Second Segment: Chastity is For Lovers and Some Words of Advice:

Before the break we were talking about your book, Chastity is For Lovers. I absolutely love it, and I think every teenager should own a copy of it. Do you think it’s important for teens and young adults to learn about chastity in terms of living purely for Christ?
What are some challenges that the world presents to us regarding living chastely
How can your book help teens and young people?
I’m going to finally mention the elephant in the room here; Arleen is it possible to be in a relationship and still practice chastity? In your book, you mention that you don’t like the saying “everything in moderation.” Why is that?
You’ve shown that chastity is a lifestyle, and that it can be done. Finally, what is your advice to a teenager or young person who is struggling with chastity?
I’d like to say thank you so much for joining me tonight on the show. It’s been a blessing to have you as a guest, and thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us. If you want to pick up a copy of Arleen’s book, visit her website: https://arleenspenceley.com/
If you want to get in touch with Arleen, you can do so from her website, or on social media. Arleen, you do speaking engagements as well? It’s been a great pleasure to have you on the show tonight – and maybe we’ll have you on again? God bless you and your ministry!
Transition: We’re going to say goodbye to Arleen and take a quick commercial break and then come back to talk about some questions that I’ll have answers to, and some books that you have to have.

Third Segment: Q&A and Three Must Have Books:

So, I’m always taking questions on FaceBook and Twitter, and so I thought I’d share a few of them tonight; some are funny and some are a bit more serious.
Christian Lemonade – “Can you fold fitted sheets?” I can, just not very well. I think the world would be a much better place with sheets that fold themselves.
Catholic School Girl – “On Judgement Day, will souls already in Heaven be judged again?” The purpose of this general judgement is to show all people from all time and space, that God is just, and did, in fact, judge everyone. That way, it shows God had no favoritism, and judged everyone. It also reminds everyone created that Jesus is there one true Redeemer& Lord. Finally, the General Judgement at the end of time is when we all receive our bodies back and have them for all of eternity.
Another question I get asked all of the time is “What books would you recommend?” I thought I’d share the three books that I definitely recommend:
Life Teen Youth Bible (It’s a good translation, has many resources,)
He Speaks to You by Sister Helena Burns (Daily devotion, Jesus’ words.)
Story of a Soul by St. Therese of Lisiuex (Little Way)
What are your favorite Catholic podcasts/shows? Any you’d recommend for teens or younger? (Life on the Rock, Catholic Guy, Busted Halo, Mark Hart, Jason Evert.)
How did the Catholic Sis ministry get started? (Blog, inspired, currently using it as a tool.)
