Please join us every Sunday night at www.fiatministrynetwork.tv at 9pm EST LIVE. Host Joe Miller talks with Jonathan Scott (jonlukescott@gmail.com) about his three volume book “The Blessed Book of Beasts” available from Eastern Christian Publications (ecpubs.com) in the New Titles catalog. The book is in the literary genre of a Catholic bestiary. The book uses animals and metaphor to share about things talked about in the Bible. Jonathan mentions that there are 101 different animals mentioned in the Bible, often with a lesson associated with them. For example, Old Testament (Numbers 22), a donkey protects his master, and even talks (acts as a prophet). In the New Testament, Jesus found a donkey and sat on it, and the donkey delivered God himself. A donkey can be seen as a sign of steadfastness, that God’s will is going to be done. In answer to a question fielded by guest co-host, Allan Smith, Jonathan shares that his inspiration for the book came from growing up on a farm and his memories of having animals around. What animals do is another piece of evidence that God exists (as mentioned by St. Paul). At 31 minutes into the show, Jonathan shares his “Fiat Moment” when he said “yes” to Christ. His conversion experience began when some friends invited him to Mass and he sensed the presence of God. At around 47 minutes into the show, Jonathan gives a wonderful answer to a question about the difference between Chrisitanity and secular idealism (for example, providing for others). Jonathan quotes from the saints about how real love leads to the willingness to lay down one’s life and that many of the great sacrificial contributions to humanity over history have been provided by Christians living out their faith.

Jonathan’s book is perfect for parents and their children, grandparents and the grandchildren. The Christian bestiary is the original kind of devotional, and this is the first one written in centuries, and the only one ever that includes virtually every animal named in the Bible. The book includes engravings from Buffon’s natural history, plus other sources and is written with imaginative and persuasive language, to inspire the heart towards goodness and devotion.
