Host Joe Miller talks with Christian singer/songwriter, Kara Klein (www.karaklein.com). Kara, from New Orleans, recently moved to Nashville. A prolific songwriter, Kara has written over 200 original Christian hymns. She has released five original albums, and has won six United Catholic Music & Video Association (UCMVA) Unity Awards, including the award for “Best Female Vocalist of the Year” in 2008.
At 9 minutes into the show, Kara shares how she learned her faith in God from her mother’s example of loving the Lord. Kara began writing songs when she was eight, and that interest was directed to Christian music when she won a contest to write and perform the theme song for the Abbey Youth festival in Covington, Louisiana at age 13. Kara released her first original album,” A Touch of Your Grace” in 2004 at age 18. Her father was a great help to her with the album. At 14 minutes into the show, Kara shared about her father’s conversion story after a near-death experience following a heart attack, and the impact of her father’s conversion on her. His conversion story is told in the book “Conversion Man” available at memorareminstries.com.
In 2005 Kara performed in Cologne, Germany at World Youth Day with Pope Benedict XVI. In March of that year Kara released “Beautiful Still—Terri’s Song”, a single dedicated to Terri Schindler-Schiavo and her family. The song was featured on worldwide television on EWTN’s Life on the Rock the night of Terri’s death. In November 2005 Kara sang the song at the annual United Catholic Music and Video Association Awards Ceremony (UCMVA Unity Awards) in Minneapolis. Kara sang “Beautiful Still” at the 2007 National Right to Life Convention where the Schindler family was honored for their work promoting the pro-life cause.
Kara travels as a music missionary, singing and speaking nationally and internationally at various churches, schools, youth conferences and retreats. At 25 minutes into the show, Kara provides some awesome advice for young people – that by spending time with God, they can experience true joy! She encourages young people to experience God by having conversations with him, and by practicing listening. By getting to know him, we can trust him. Her proof of God isn’t based on theology as much as it is her experience of God.
Kara also o shares about her work with Rwandan genocide survivor Immaculee Iligabiza, author of the New York Times’ bestseller, “Left To Tell”. During that time Kara traveled throughout Rwanda, leading music for various pilgrimages. She also volunteered at Mother Teresa’s orphanage in Kigali and at a school for blind children in the little village of Kibeho.
In 2010 Kara had did a yearlong experience in Comunita Cenacolo, an Italian born community with 65 houses around the world, to help and heal youth who have become hopeless, disillusioned or addicted in their lives. She shares how God answered her prayers for her brother, who while in one of the houses, had his life turned radically around.
Samples of Kara’s music are shared throughout the show.
Toward the end of the show (53 minutes), guest co-host Allan Smith (www.bishopsheentoday.com) talks about the status of the Bishop Fulton Sheen canonization cause in regards to recent news stories.
