LIBERATION THEOLOGY
Liberation Theology is coming to a Catholic Parish near you! But – What is Liberation Theology? It’s a preoccupation with the poor, the oppressed, the victims of society, The down trodden. Well…it certainly seems noble – and of course it is. BUT! And there’s a very big but here, It cannot be the overriding objective of our faith. Love of mankind cannot trump love of God! God is 1st. His Kingdom is NOT of this world. Yes I know we MUST feed the hungry and work for social justice but not to the extent of abandoning God. Abandoning God? What do I mean? Real LIBERATION or freedom or Redemption (By the way redemption in biblical terms is equated with freedom) so freedom or Liberation or Redemption is found in Jesus Christ conquering sin. It is ONLY when we are free of sin that there is true liberation. When people are finally God centered, when God takes priority in all things, then we will see clearly how to treat our brothers and sisters. For instance, the Government can build the world’s largest soup kitchen, the Gov’t distributes hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars of entitlements yearly. The Church could never match the giving power of the State. And this is the folly with Liberation theology in the Catholic Church today. It’s a Marxist, Socialist agenda that believes in a Heaven on Earth, that when true equality is reached, socially, economically, religiously, then we will have TRUE FREEDOM. This of course is pure nonsense because true freedom was accomplished by Jesus Christ when He liberated us from sin by His life, death and Resurrection . When He consumed all the sins of the world on our behalf. The real problem with Liberation Theology? They no longer preach sin! Its not fashionable, its not the heart of the problem, to them, hunger, oppression, poverty this is the real problem. Its amazing how blind we can become to the TRUTH when our priorities are out of alignment. We love God first and then we will see clearly how we should love our fellow man. Putting man before the commandments of God creates a distorted image of God. Because it becomes a god of our own creation.
